Crawford Family Opens 6th School in Nicauragua
/Here's a message from Sarah and Tom, our partners and leaders from Schoolbox, regarding the 6th school the Brett Bentley Crawford Foundation recently launched.
"We're really excited to share the good news that Brett's school #6 was officially opened last Friday! The ribbon was cut by Ronald, the local Mayor and the head of the Ministry of Education for the department of Chinandega. They were cheered on by all the kids, who were thrilled to have a new, beautiful, safe school to call their own! It is pretty hard to imagine that many of these kids had no place to study except for outside under a tree!
As you may remember from the initial proposal (see here: https://schoolbox.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Tools-4-Schools-Brett-6-21-09.pdf), the original building was in terrible condition, structurally unsound and extremely dangerous. The children above 4th grade didn't have classrooms and met for school outside under the trees. Now they have 3 beautiful classrooms to fit all the children, complete with stairs and an accessible ramp, a reinforcement wall at the back of the school and a full electrical system! The community is overjoyed!
We're really excited to have members of the Crawford family down to participate in the first graduation ceremony at the school later this year, Dec 3-7, 2017. I'm also really hopefull that the road will be accessible to visit the site of the proposed NEXT Brett's School #7, Los Laureles, which we hope to break ground on in 2018."
